As regular users of guest house accommodation my husband and I have found that they are streets ahead of hotel accommodation, and Anton House just confirmed this for us.
Louise the owner met us on arrival, showed us to our room for the evening and assisted my husband with the off road parking. Our room was just delightful as described on their website.
We find that the mark of a good guest house is not just the rooms, although a comfy bed is a must, but the breakfast that will keep you going through the following day. The breakfast that Louise put before us that morning was one of the best we have ever had, freshly cooked, good quality products and hot plates, lovely.
Would I stay there again? Oh yes.
Thank you Louise and your team for a lovely stay in a lovely Guest House. It's people like you that will keep Tourism going through these dark days of the Credit Crunch.

As lovers of the British countryside and its topography, it has been our wont in recent years to take a few days break in January and this year we decided on Shrewsbury and its environs; a city we had by-passed so many times on our way to Snowdonia but never seen in close-up.
Having decided on our destination we spend considerable time looking at the small hotels and guest houses and consider their individual merits. On this occasion we felt that Anton House suited our requirements and accordingly booked a stay for 4 nights; Thursday to Sunday.
Our journey from home started mid-morning and we arrived early evening, after dark, and were greeted by Louise. We knew immediately we had made the right decision; her greeting was so friendly and helpful.
We have travelled not only the length and breadth of England but also Scotland and Wales and have stayed at dozens, if not hundreds, of small hotels, guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments over many years. Some have been poor, either in standards of the house or in the distinct lack of welcome from the proprietor(s), but thankfully those have been very far and few between. Many, the large majority, have been quite acceptable but were purely a business transaction and lacked the personal touch. The remainder fall in to a very small and special minority; those that not only offer such high house standards but also give a warm and welcoming personal touch. Louise and Anton House fall very much in to that category.
It is not necessary, in our opinion, for us to comment in detail on the facilities available; they are all exactly described by the proprietor. However, there is one exception to that; she will, obviously, not comment on her being such a lovely hostess but we will now, unequivocally, do it for her.
Thank you, Louise, for making our stay with you so special. Our experience has told us that anyone seeking accommodation in Shrewsbury can do no better than call Anton House.

We have just returned from a weekend break in Shrewsbury - a last minute treat before the end of the school summer holidays. We
found the Anton Guest House on the net, simply by entering 'B&Bs in Shrewsbury'. The Anton came up, and seeing as we wanted to stay
the following evening, decided to book by telephone immediately.
WHAT A FIND! We were greeted by the lovely Louise, who is a really
friendly lady, and a natural in the hospitality trade.
The room was really well kitted out, with all the extras you'd expect in a
4 star establishment. In addition to the warm welcome and a guest house full of character, we were presented with a superb full English
breakfast with enough tea, coffee, juice, indeed, anything we wanted!
I cannot praise this guest house enough. To cut a long story short,
it's like visiting an old school friend and having a lovely, relaxing time.
WELL DONE, LOUISE!

Can't thank Louise enough for a lovely weekend.
The breakfast was superb and the fruit salad to die for.
A warm happy place to stay with clean rooms and everything has been thought of with such attention to detail.
Nice TV in rooms. Would recommend to all.
Great places to eat within walking distance and not too expensive. Just a short walk to the town centre.

My daughter and I took a trip to England and Ireland to search our roots all the way from Birmingham, Alabama. We found The Anton House on tripadvisor and thought it sounded like a great place for the money. We were not disappointed at all.
Louise welcomed us like her family members and the room was large, and the beds were so comfortable it was hard to get going in the morning. We had everything that we could have possibly needed right at our fingertips.
We were just a short walk to the town and we felt very safe. After returning home, we decided that The Anton House was by far the best place we stayed and the best hostess by far. We want to go back!

We stayed for 2 nights in Feb 2010. Chose the guest house based upon other excellent reviews and weren't disappointed.
The room was a reasonable size, well equipped with flat screen TV/DVD player, free WiFi, and a very comfortable super king sized bed.
What was really great was the little things - biscuits and chocolates every day, good array of toiletries including facial wipes, and selection of fruit juices and smoothies downstairs 24hrs a day.
Breakfast was fantastic with a huge choice of cereals, fruit salads, cooked breakfast, pastries etc.
To top it off the owner was extremely friendly and helpful, with nothing seeming to be too much trouble.

I booked this guesthouse after noticing good reviews on Tripadvisor and checking out their site. There were some good deals to be had off-season and I booked a four night Sunday to Thursday stay in January 2009.
The Anton Guest House is a little bit out of the centre of Shrewsbury but in many ways this is a benefit. It is quiet at night and yet a frequent bus route (numbers 1 and 11) passes directly outside or you can choose to take a short cut across the meadows on foot. A taxi costs a fiver including a tip. The bus costs £1.40 at the time of writing.
The guesthouse provides a "home from home" atmosphere as the family who run it live on the premises.
The room where breakfast is served is well equipped with a fridge containing yoghurts and fruit juices for consumption at all hours.
My room, at the top of the house, was remarkably comfortable with a spacious double bed, writing desk, TV/DVD, several chests of drawers of various sizes and a wardrobe. The en-suite had a bath and a shower and fluffy while towels and bath robes and complimentary toiletries of good quality.
On a couple of occasions I returned early from the rawness of an icy January day and felt extremely comfortable and relaxed in the room which was kept more than adequately heated.
The service provided by the proprietress, Louise, was friendly without being intrusive.
I ate each evening at a pub/restaurant called "The Abbey" which was just along Monkmoor Road not even five minutes walk away.
All the ingredients for a good short break were here. I recommend it.

My wife and I stayed at Anton House for two nights to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and Louise could not have been more welcoming.
The room and all facilities were excellent, the cooked breakfast was the biggest I have ever had, but I ate the lot as it was so good.
We particularly liked the fact that Louise allows visitors to book in prior to 11.30 in the morning, even if the room is not ready, in order to have a full day in the fabulous town of Shrewsbury. Too many B&Bs seem not to accept new arrivals until quite late in the day, which in November means it is virtually dark!
We would also thank our excellent host for the kind gift of a bottle of Shropshire fizz for our Anniversary.
Don't think twice about staying here, we wished we had stayed for an extra night or two.
Should also mention that it is very conveniently located with no more than a 10 to 15 minute stroll into the town centre.

We booked a last minute three night stay and couldn't have
picked a more friendly place. Louise welcomed us and was
very helpful.
Our rooms were spotless with a well stocked welcome tray and bottled water every day.
There was plenty of choice for breakfast including fresh fruit.
As we are over 60 we had our travel passes so used the bus into town. It stopped
just around corner for going into town and opposite the house coming home door to door service.
Thank you Louise for a welcomed break. Val and Harry

At Anton House we were given a friendly welcome by the lovely Louise. A nice cup of tea and a chat about local amenities.
There was nothing we needed from robes and slippers to toiletries. Breakfasts were delicious and kept us happy all day long.
The area is beautiful and has interesting places to explore, with many shops no longer in our high streets to browse.
A stay with Louise will make you want more.

Louise made my husband and I feel welcome from start to finish. We were given tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival and then shown to our very clean, comfortable room which was fully equipped with every single thing you could ever possibly need!!! Robes, slippers, towels, toiletries, tea, coffee, biscuits, etc etc. We were offered to use anything from the breakfast/sitting room including food and drink as well as iron/ironing board etc.
A key was given for the room and front door so times were not restricted.
We had a comfortable night and a wonderful breakfast which was chosen from a huge selection sheet the night before. There were no restrictions on how much and of what you chose and I'm sure Louise would have gladly given you everything on the list if you ticked it (we only had one brekkie each though)!!
The B&B was lovely and was also in a perfect place for walking to town, with pubs nearby, a chip shop and a convenient store just round the corner.
We would definitely come back here, Louise thought of everything to make a stay away from home as comfortable and pleasant as she possibly could.

Really I think I would have moved in permanently if such a thing were possible! Stayed here with my parents while showing them around the UK in April, and from the moment of booking I knew we'd made the right choice, because Louise is one of the nicest people in the world!
She tolerantly put up with my making a complete mistake on what time our train would be coming in, promised we could leave our bags at the house even if the rooms weren't ready early (they were) and is one of those people who seems to get into the tourist business because of genuinely liking to meet people and hear their stories.
My parents had a double ensuite room which suited them quite well, mine was a twin with a private bathroom just down the corridor. It had just been finished that morning, fresh with a new coat of paint and delightful fluffy duvets and curtains. The welcome tray was full, the beds were comfy, and we were more than happy to freshen up and relax a bit before exploring.
The breakfast also requires a mention--it's delicious (cooked by her husband, if I remember rightly) and the dining room, while small and therefore necessary to schedule, is bustling and cheerful and friendly.
All in all one of the best places I've stayed, and I'll be making a point to go back!

I stayed at the Anton Guest House for 4 weeks whilst on business near Shrewsbury in March 2009.
The location was perfect for commuting and only a 10-minute walk into town.
The room was extremely clean and comfortable and the landlady Louise couldn't have done more to make me feel at home - highly recommended!
